Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 August 2026

Introduction

This Privacy Policy governs the use of your personal information by Lawned.

We must comply with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 (Privacy Act) when dealing with your information. When we say “your information” in this Privacy Policy, we mean personal information as defined in and protected by the Privacy Act. Any personal information you provide to us will be stored, used and disclosed by us in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

In this policy, “Lawned”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Lawned Ltd unless otherwise stated.

Your information will be collected by Lawned Ltd and held by Lawned Ltd, New Zealand.

Acceptance of this Privacy Policy

You accept this Privacy Policy, and authorise the collection, use and storage of your information as described in this Privacy Policy when you access or use the Platform, our services or otherwise provide us with any of your information.

What information we can collect about you

We collect information you give us

When you create your account, use our websites or services, or register your interest for research or feature releases, we may collect information from you, such as: your name, email, phone number, address, property details, mapped zones (including lawn polygons, markers, title pins, access constraints, and off-limits areas), satellite imagery of your property, access notes, photos you upload (for example photos of your property's condition), payment information, account preferences, messages you send through the Platform, and feedback on our services.

If you are a contractor, we may also collect business details such as your legal name, trading name, entity type (for example sole trader, company, or partnership), New Zealand Business Number (NZBN), service area, qualifications or insurance details you choose to provide, and the information needed to set up payouts (collected and held by our payment processor, Stripe).

You are not required to provide us with your information. However, if you don't, or we can't otherwise collect your information, it may affect our ability to provide our services to you.

We collect information created when you use our services

We may collect information about you when you use our services, such as the details of your jobs and orders, offers and counter-offers, payment and payout records, before-and-after photos submitted as completion evidence, reviews and ratings, dispute records, instructions from you, and information about how you interact with our services.

We collect information from third parties

We may collect information about you from third parties, for example from service providers that help us to verify your identity, process payments, provide mapping services, or support customer communications. We may also collect information about you from publicly available sources where relevant to operating the marketplace.

We may use identity or verification services to confirm your identity and the identity of anyone else involved in a transaction on the Platform. Contractor payout identity checks are performed by Stripe as part of Stripe Connect onboarding — we do not collect copies of passports, driver licences, or similar identity documents ourselves. If you operate as a company or partnership, we may also check your NZBN against the New Zealand Business Number Register (Companies Office). Phone numbers you provide are contact details only and are not independently verified by Lawned. By using our services, you consent to this and confirm that you have the consent of any person providing or receiving payment on your behalf where required.

How we can use your information

We use your information in accordance with your specific instructions or consent, or in accordance with this Privacy Policy, including for the following purposes:

We can use your information to provide our services

We use your information to provide, personalise, and improve our services. For example, we may use your information to create and update your account, verify your identity or NZBN, process job postings, offers, bookings, holds, captures and payouts, notify nearby contractors in matching workzones about new jobs, resolve operational problems, and carry out testing and research.

We can use your information to keep things safe, secure and legal

We may use your information to detect, prevent, and protect against fraud and crime and to comply with the law.

We can use your information for customer support

We may use your information to communicate with you to provide and improve our customer support and resolve disputes.

We can use your information for research and development

We can use your information to test, research, analyse, and develop our service to make it better and safer to use. We may use information we collect about you and other customers or users of our websites, app, or services (whether we've obtained it directly or from third parties) to create aggregated and anonymised analytics. We may use your information to obtain your feedback through a third party.

We can use your information to promote Lawned and other content we think you'll like

We can use your information to send you emails, text messages, and other content about our service or the services of entities we partner with, where permitted by law and your preferences.

Who we can share your information with

We may share your information with third parties, such as:

  • contractors or clients involved in a job you participate in, to the extent needed to quote on or perform the service. Sharing is staged to match how the marketplace works: (1) while a job is open for quotes, nearby contractors may see suburb/area, an approximate property pin, mapped zone shapes and sizes, map overlays (such as markers, title pins, and access constraints), job scope (services, notes, and extras), any condition photos attached to the request, listed budget or package details, timing, and limited public profile information (for example a display name, avatar, and basic marketplace stats) — not your full street address, email, or account ID; off-limits zones are treated as safety boundaries and are not included as paid work areas; (2) after a quote is accepted, the assigned contractor may also receive your phone number so they can arrange access; (3) after contact is unlocked (typically when work is ready to start), the assigned contractor may see your full street address, Platform messaging, and related job materials needed to complete the work;
  • payment processors and financial service providers that help us process transactions, holds, captures, and payouts (we use Stripe — see stripe.com/nz/privacy);
  • identity verification and fraud-prevention providers (contractor payout identity checks are performed by Stripe as part of Stripe Connect onboarding; we may also query the New Zealand Business Number Register to verify a company or partnership NZBN);
  • mapping and infrastructure providers that help us deliver property and job features (we use Mapbox for property mapping and satellite imagery);
  • software-as-a-service providers that we use to provide the service (for example, Supabase for authentication, database, and file storage, and Resend for transactional email);
  • cloud-storage providers;
  • marketing partners and third-party providers who assist us to market or promote our services to you — as described in the “A note on cookies and similar tech” section below;
  • data analytics or research partners;
  • third parties that help us to enhance the safety and security of the service;
  • where required, local and international regulators;
  • our consultants, lawyers, accountants, insurers, and professional advisors.

When your information is shared with these third parties, your information will be managed in accordance with their privacy policies. Some of these service providers and business partners are located outside of New Zealand and may not be subject to New Zealand privacy laws. However, we take such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to confirm that those organisations are required to protect the information in a way that, overall, provides comparable safeguards to those under the Privacy Act. By using our services and otherwise providing us with your information, you authorise such disclosure.

We may also share your information if we believe it's allowed by law or is appropriate due to fraud, security, or similar concerns. If you use another person's payment or other information, we may share your information with that person.

We may share your information if we sell to, or merge some or all of our business or assets with, another company.

We can also use and share your information in other ways if you give your consent.

We can use and share information that does not identify you for any purpose.

A note on cookies and similar tech

Cookies and other similar technology are used to remember your browser or device during and between website or app visits. Our service may include cookies and other tech with a similar purpose. We can use this technology to do things such as remember your preferences and settings, improve security, analyse traffic and trends, and measure the effectiveness and popularity of features or marketing so that we can improve our website, app, or services and provide you with a better user experience.

This technology is linked to your browser or device. The sort of information collected includes your device type, date and time of use, referring website and advertisement, IP address, and advertising identifiers. We may link this information to other information we collect about you.

We may use third-party advertising or analytics platforms to display online ads for us or to understand performance of our services. These entities may use cookies and other similar tech to identify your browser or device when you use our service, as well as when you visit other online sites and services.

For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.

Retaining and deleting your information

We may keep your information:

  • for as long as you have an account;
  • for as long as we believe necessary to comply with regulatory, tax, insurance, and other requirements (for example, transaction records are kept for at least 7 years to meet New Zealand tax record-keeping obligations);
  • for as long as reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim, respond to a chargeback, comply with a court or regulator, or meet an insurer's reasonable requirements; or
  • for as long as reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, safety, and security, subject to periodic review.

Some information is deleted on a shorter cycle. Ordinary profile and property photos are removed when the related account or property is deleted. Before-and-after completion photos are retained only while a job can still be reviewed or disputed. Evidence from a resolved Resolution Center case is normally deleted 90 days after resolution. If we receive a chargeback, legal claim, court or regulator notice, or a relevant insurer request, an administrator may place only the necessary case evidence on a legal hold. We remove that hold and delete the evidence when it is no longer reasonably required.

When you delete your account, we remove your login, personal profile, properties, and ordinary media. We retain only de-identified transaction records required for financial and tax record-keeping. If resolved-case evidence is still within its retention period, it is separated from your account and the product shows its scheduled deletion date. Stripe may retain payment, payout, identity-verification, or compliance records under its own legal obligations and privacy policy.

Deleted information may remain temporarily in encrypted service backups until those backups cycle out under our provider's backup schedule. Backups are access-restricted and used only for disaster recovery. If a backup is restored, we will re-apply recorded deletion requests where reasonably practicable.

We're committed to keeping your information safe and secure

We continuously implement and update security measures to help protect your information. However, despite all of our measures, we can't guarantee the security of the transmission or storage of your information.

Your rights regarding your information

You may:

  • withdraw any consents given in relation to the handling by us of your information;
  • request access to your information (we may charge a fee);
  • request that we correct information that is inaccurate or out of date by contacting us through the Platform or the contact details below; or
  • delete your account yourself from Profile settings (Delete account) when you have no active jobs, unsettled payments, or open disputes — this permanently removes your login and personal profile data, subject to the limited retention described above.

Where you request us to correct your information, we will take reasonable steps, consistent with our obligations under the Privacy Act, to correct or update that information.

If at any time you no longer wish to receive marketing emails from us or our business partners, or do not want your information disclosed for direct marketing purposes, you can update your notification preferences in your account settings where available, or opt out using the unsubscribe function in any electronic marketing communications sent from us or our business partners.

Changes to our Privacy Policy
